Web SIte Usability Seminar

Online Marketing Seminar 3: Web Site Usability

13/11/2008

You might think your web site's fine - that it looks good, says great things about your business and does a good job of promoting your products and services. But it's not YOUR web site - it's your customers'! What do THEY think?

Are you certain that your web site is as good as it can  be? Are you happy with the results you're getting? Do you even know what results you're getting?

What if you were in a shop but couldn't find the checkouts? What if you wanted to buy a new product, but none of the staff could explain the benefits? What if you test drove a new car, but couldn't understand the dashboard? You'd take your business elsewhere.

Your web site is the same. Web users are a fickle, impatient bunch. If your site isn't as easy to use as possible, or gives users exactly what they need as quickly and easily as possible, then some of them just won't use it.

As ebusiness advisers we spend most of our time helping companies to understand why their expensive web site isn't really working for them - and how they can improve things. No matter how good you think your site is, this seminar will show you how to make it better.

The ISO definition of usability is "the extent to which a product can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use". Our favourite definition is "applied common sense". The problem is that what is obvious or common sense to you might not be so to your users.

Our Usability seminar will teach you the ground rules of usability and show you how to review your own online presence with a fresh eye. You'll learn how to make improvements to your site that will bring genuine, measurable results.

You will leave this session with an understanding of:

  • What web site usability is and why it matters
  • How the big brands do it and what you can learn from them
  • How to assess your own site for usability through your customer's eyes
  • Using Web statistics and analytics to find out how people really use your site
  • Simple improvements you can make that will have real impact

We'll show you examples of best practice and research that demonstrates what the users think is important - not just the so-called experts.
