Scotland’s biotech sector is maturing and indeed thriving as an internationally recognised centre of excellence. The Science Strategy for Scotland highlighted biotechnology as crucial to the country’s future economic and social success. This focus has resulted in a growth of Targeting Innovation’s Bioscience Team.

All members of our Bioscience Team are educated to post graduate level in bioscience subjects, have industry experience and have extensive knowledge of the wide range of public sector support mechanisms.

Nexxus, The West of Scotland BioScience Network, (www.nexxusscotland.com) was launched in September 2003 as an initiative to stimulate interaction, collaboration and technology transfer between bioscience organisations across the West of Scotland, while providing a vehicle to promote the region as a key location for bioscience research and company development. The initiative, which was devised and developed by our Bioscience Team, attracted financial support from Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow University and the EU. Such has been its success that additional financial support from several funders, including the aforementioned bodies, has been secured to continue the intitiative for a further 3 year period until 2008.

The Bioscience Business Advisory Services is a national project devised and developed in Glasgow. The initiative provides the service of highly skilled and experienced individuals to work alongside universities and research institutions to identify and work with new opportunities, particularly potential spin-out companies. In addition, the Advisers are available to work with nascent, new start and established biotechnology companies seeking assistance to establish operations or pursue growth opportunities.

Our specialist approach to supporting the bioscience cluster has been enthusiastically received by a community which continues to grow at around 20% per annum.
