Cooperation:
Objective driven research projects aiming at developing new knowledge, new technology, and products, to improve European competitiveness or to address major societal needs. Collaborative projects take two forms: Specific Targeted Research Projects (STREP) and Integrating Projects (IP).
The Cooperation programme is primarily targeted to organisations who wish funding to develop their own research activities (Universities, R&D capable Companies and SMEs, Contract Researchers). The programme is thematic, with priorities determined by the EC and published periodically through specific calls for proposals under the following sector headings:
Capacities:
Research for the Benefit of Specific Groups (in particular SMEs) - Supports research and technological development projects where the bulk of the research is carried out by RTD performers for the benefit of specific groups, in particular Small and Medium sized Enterprises - either in small groups under Research for SMEs or in associations under Research for Associations.
The Capacities programme essentially provides the opportunity for SMEs (or SME Associations) to access top European researchers to develop new products/processes/services which they can exploit for their own benefit and that of Europe. Capacities projects are non thematic and can therefore cover any area or sector and there are typically annual calls for both Research for SME and Research for Associations funding mechanisms.
